As the day for Trick-or-Treating approaches, nutrition becomes a concern for parents as they send out kids to get candy and other Halloween treats that are high in calories, sugar, and health deterring artificial ingredients. Well, thanks to 5W public relations, I was able to try three low calorie treats that will satisfy your kids’ craving for sweetness while still maintaining their healthy diets!

The first snack is a great choice for keeping children hydrated while going from house to house! This fun Disney inspired product is called Coco Joy. Coco Joy are fruit flavored coconut water beverages that features favorite Disney and Marvel characters on the labels. The flavors include Strawberry and Banana, Pineapple, Watermelon, Banana, and Berry. I got to try the Watermelon and Pineapple flavors, and they definitely have a sweet and tart taste to them. Coco Joy could easily be a replacement for the sugar filled hard candies that children usually get. The great thing nutritionally about Coco Joy is that the coconut water comes from young coconuts, so the main ingredients are 100% natural, and Coco Joy does not feature the cloudiness of coconut water made from older coconuts. Also, it is low in sodium (105 mg per bottle), has no sugar added, and they are only 30 calories per bottle. So be sure to check out Coco Joy!

NOTE: The drinks are sealed with aluminum foil, and I recommend having an adult open the drinks before they are handed to children.

Next, we have a fancy treat that the whole family can enjoy! That treat is called Bauli Authentic Italian Mini Croissants! These oven baked and natural leavened dough croissants have sweet flavored fillings including Chocolate, Vanilla Custard, and Cherry Jelly. It is a favorite snack in Italy, and each portable bag includes 6, 50 calorie pieces. I got to try the Chocolate and Vanilla Custard flavors, and the dough tasted fresh and the filling was sweet without being overwhelming. As long as children enjoy these mini croissants one at a time, they will certainly be better for you than candy bars!

Last, there are the classic Lance crackers and cookies for everyone to enjoy! They are soon to sell new seasonal flavors including Pumpkin Cheesecake and Sprinkled Sugar Cookie. I unfortunately wasn’t able to try these new flavors, but I did get to sample their whole grain crackers with sharp cheddar cheese and peanut butter fillings. They are certainly a way to get a little bit of salt to balance the sweetness of other treats without consuming too much salt. Lance crackers are a great snack choice in general, and I’m sure that they will be a good alternative Halloween snack as well!
